Changelog

All notable changes to borco-core are recorded here. The format follows Keep a Changelog, and the package follows Semantic Versioning.

Changelogs are per package in this monorepo, matching the per-package release tags: this file covers borco-core only, and its releases are tagged borco-core-X.Y.Z.

[Unreleased]

[0.3.0] - 2026-10-12

Added

  • borco_core.path_presence — whether a remembered path is still there, without waiting on a machine that is off: device_of classifies a path's storage (local, network, removable, optical) from local state only, and presence_of / PresenceScan answer present, gone or offline, asking a network path's server with a short connection attempt before any stat (a stat under a switched-off SMB host blocks for 21 s). The scan runs on daemon threads, so quitting never waits for it.

  • borco_core.text_search — searching text the way a person types it. fold ignores case and diacritics (NFKD, casefold, combining marks dropped: "José" and "Jose" fold alike, ß to ss, fi to fi); search_terms splits a search into words, a "quoted run" being one; TextMatcher.of(text).matches(*texts) is true when every word is found in one of the texts. read_value reads one bare or quoted value, \" and \\ its only escapes.

[0.2.0] - 2026-09-27

Added

  • borco_core.logging — LogScope for tagging log records with nested scopes, and SharedRotatingFileHandler, a rotating log file several processes can append to.
  • shared_read_open — open a file for reading without blocking its rename on Windows.
  • borco_core.file_holders — which processes hold a file open (Windows Restart Manager).

Changed

  • FileAssociation takes extensions with their leading dot (".rehu"), like the other Windows registration APIs.

Fixed

  • atomic_write_bytes logs a failed directory fsync instead of raising after the file was already replaced.
  • delete_key_tree no longer re-enumerates a registry key while deleting from it.

[0.1.0] - 2026-07-29

The first version with anything in it: 0.0.1 and 0.0.2 held the name and shipped no code, so everything below is new rather than changed.

Added

  • atomic_write — crash-safe file writes: write a temporary sibling, flush and fsync, then replace atomically.
  • Windows platform integration — per-user (HKCU) registry helpers, file-type association, and both directory and file-extension shell context menus.
  • Linux platform integration — XDG data-directory helpers with cache refresh, desktop entries, MIME packages, and icon-theme installation.

[0.0.2] - 2026-07-01

Changed

  • README now links to the PyPI project and the GitHub repository. No functional change — the released code is identical to 0.0.1.

[0.0.1] - 2026-07-01

Initial release, published to reserve the name on PyPI rather than to be used. The distribution contains a version constant and a py.typed marker and nothing else: there is no functionality to import yet.
